“I want to put it this way,” Trump said in response to a question about whether he is prepared to step down from his role as president.
“I don’t think it’s a bad thing for me to be in that role.
But if you look at the country, it’s not a good thing for the country.”
Trump’s transition team said in a statement that Trump “does not intend to step aside from his duties” as president “as he prepares to become the 45th President of the United States.”
“The President has stated that he intends to serve until he is confirmed and that he has no plans to leave the Presidency,” the statement continued.
“The President’s schedule has not changed, and he will remain focused on advancing the President’s agenda,” the transition team added.
“The Trump Administration is fully committed to working with Congress to make our country stronger and more prosperous, and President Trump will continue to focus on helping America’s businesses succeed.”
The Trump transition team did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment.
